The TP03 is a custom-molded fiberglass bumper developed for heavy-duty truck and commercial vehicle projects. Its geometry, mounting interfaces, reinforcement areas, openings and surface finish can be configured from approved drawings, CAD data or a reference sample.
Unlike a universal retail accessory, the TP03 is manufactured around a defined vehicle or customer-approved installation interface. The truck make, model, year, cab generation and mounting dimensions must be reviewed before tooling or production begins.
Fiberglass provides useful design flexibility for large curved surfaces, integrated styling features and paint-ready exterior components. The laminate and supporting structure still need to be designed around the bumper’s actual function.
A molded fiberglass bumper may serve as an exterior fascia, styled cover or part of a larger bumper assembly. It should not automatically be treated as the vehicle’s crash beam, towing member, underride guard or chassis cross-member.
If the project requires a complete functional assembly, the customer should define:
Static and dynamic design loads
Bracket and chassis interfaces
Impact requirements
Towing or recovery requirements
Underride protection requirements
Applicable vehicle regulations
Required laboratory or vehicle testing
Steel supports, load-bearing brackets or energy-absorbing components may be required behind the fiberglass outer part. These elements must be engineered and validated separately unless they are expressly included in the approved TP03 design.
Provide the following information to evaluate fitment:
Truck manufacturer
Vehicle model
Model year
Cab or chassis generation
Front or rear installation position
Existing bumper dimensions
Frame and bracket drawings
Ground clearance
Adjacent panel clearances
Required production quantity
A part developed for one cab generation may not fit another version of the same truck without modification.
The bumper geometry can be reviewed for customer-specified features such as:
License-plate recesses
Lamp openings
Reflector openings
Ventilation areas
Sensor locations
Access panels
Service openings
Decorative ribs or contours
The customer must supply the exact component dimensions, retention method and clearance requirements for lamps, sensors and other installed equipment.
Cooling airflow, sensor operation, visibility and regulatory positioning should be checked at vehicle level.
The TP03 uses fiberglass reinforcement combined with a project-selected resin system. The reinforcement type, fiber orientation and laminate thickness are determined from the part geometry, mounting arrangement and required performance.
Local reinforcement may be added around:
Mounting points
Bracket interfaces
Corners
Large openings
Edge returns
High-vibration areas
Areas exposed to handling loads
A uniform laminate is not always appropriate. Adding material only where it is needed can provide better control of weight, stiffness and installation loads.
Fiberglass does not rust like unprotected carbon steel, but resin selection, surface coating and edge sealing must still reflect UV exposure, moisture, road contaminants and operating temperature.
The manufacturing method is selected according to component size, surface requirements, tolerance, tooling budget and production volume.
Process | Typical Use |
|---|---|
Hand Lay-Up | Prototypes, large parts and lower-volume production |
Vacuum Infusion or VARTM | Large components requiring controlled laminate consolidation |
RTM | Repeat production with improved dimensional consistency and two molded surfaces |
SMC Compression Molding | Higher production volumes that justify matched metal tooling |
Not every process is suitable for every bumper design. Tooling access, undercuts, embedded hardware, visible surfaces and expected annual volume are reviewed before a process is recommended.
The selected process and laminate specification should be recorded in the approved production documents.
Mounting details have a direct effect on bumper fitment and service performance.
Available project options may include:
Bonded metal plates
Threaded inserts
Molded mounting flanges
Customer-specified steel brackets
Backing plates
Local laminate reinforcement
Factory-installed hardware
Multi-part pre-assembly
The quotation should state which brackets, fasteners and accessories are included. Hardware shown in a reference photograph should not be assumed to be part of the supply.
Bolt loads must be distributed over suitable bearing areas. Excessive tightening against an unsupported fiberglass surface can damage the laminate, so mounting torque and backing support should be established during installation design.
A fiberglass surface component must not be used as a tow point, jacking point or recovery attachment unless that function has been specifically engineered and tested.
Available finishes include:
Molded gel coat
Paint-ready surface preparation
Primer
Gloss or matte paint
RAL colors
Customer-supplied color references
A color or finish sample can be approved before batch production. Final appearance depends on surface class, mold condition, coating system and inspection criteria.
The first bumper should be dry-fitted before final painting whenever the project is based on a new mold, modified vehicle or reference sample. Any trimming, hole adjustment or interface correction should be completed before the finished coating is applied.
Professional installation and refinishing are recommended where the bumper forms part of a larger vehicle conversion or repair project.
The first TP03 bumper should be inspected against the approved drawing and tested on the applicable truck or installation fixture.
Fitment review can cover:
Overall width and centerline
Bracket and bolt-hole locations
Corner and wheel clearance
Gap to the grille, hood and adjacent panels
Cab-tilt or service-access clearance
Lamp, sensor and license-plate openings
Ground clearance
Cooling-air paths
Surface alignment
Removal and installation access
Written first-article approval should be completed before batch production.
The vehicle manufacturer, modifier or responsible integrator should define any required vibration, impact, thermal, weathering, road-use or regulatory tests.
A TP03 project can use an agreed inspection plan covering:
Drawing revision control
Raw-material identification
Mold inspection
Laminate construction
Critical dimensions
Mounting interfaces
Embedded plates and inserts
Cutout locations
Edge finish
Visible surface defects
Color and gloss
First-article fitment
Final packaging
Measurement methods and acceptance tolerances should be agreed before production. General fiberglass material properties should not replace part-specific engineering requirements.
XHY has worked with fiberglass and carbon-fiber composite products since 2007. Customers requiring automotive quality records, material documents or specific inspection reports should list them during the RFQ stage so their scope can be reviewed before quotation.
The TP03 fiberglass truck bumper can be evaluated for:
Heavy-duty road trucks
Commercial fleet vehicles
Construction trucks
Agricultural vehicles
Mining and off-road vehicles
Municipal and utility vehicles
Special-purpose trucks
Vehicle refurbishment projects
Custom cab and exterior programs
Operating conditions vary between these applications. Road debris, vibration, approach angle, maintenance access and expected handling loads should be considered during design.

Crash performance, towing capacity, structural rating, flame performance and environmental test requirements are not assumed from the model name. They must be defined and verified for the intended vehicle.
Submit the truck details, drawings, sample, installation position, required quantity and finish specification.
XHY reviews the geometry, molding method, laminate, mounting interfaces, openings, surface class and inspection requirements.
The quotation defines the supplied component, tooling, brackets, hardware, sample process and documentation. Production drawings are approved before tooling begins.
The mold is produced or modified, followed by a first TP03 bumper for dimensional and surface inspection.
The customer checks the bumper on the specified vehicle or fixture. Necessary corrections are recorded before final approval.
Production begins after the design, fitment and finish have been approved in writing.
The bumper is protected against abrasion, deformation, edge damage and movement during transportation. Export crates or support frames can be evaluated for large painted components.
No. It is a project-specific component. Truck make, model, year, cab generation and mounting dimensions must be confirmed before manufacturing.
Not without engineering validation. A fiberglass outer bumper may require a separate steel beam, bracket system or energy-absorbing structure. Crash and road-use requirements must be defined by the vehicle manufacturer or integrator.
Yes, subject to design review. Provide the component drawings, required position, retaining method, wiring clearance and applicable regulatory requirements.
An authorized reference sample may be used, but it must first be checked for deformation, previous repairs and missing features. The corrected geometry should be approved before mold production.
For a new or modified design, dry fitting is recommended before final paint. This allows mounting holes, clearances and adjacent-panel gaps to be corrected without damaging the finished coating.
Brackets, backing plates and inserts can be included when they are defined in the approved drawing and quotation. Their material, coating, load and bolt pattern must be specified.
Some localized cracks and surface damage can be repaired. The repair method depends on the resin, laminate and damage location. Mounting areas and safety-related damage require inspection before repair.
A fuel-saving claim cannot be made from material choice alone. Aerodynamic performance depends on the complete vehicle shape, installation position, speed and operating cycle, and requires suitable testing or simulation.
MOQ depends on part size, mold construction and manufacturing process. Open-mold methods may suit smaller quantities, while RTM or SMC tooling normally requires a larger production program.
XHY manufactures the component to approved project requirements. Vehicle homologation, crash compliance and final road-use approval remain the responsibility of the vehicle manufacturer, modifier or responsible integrator unless otherwise agreed.
